Content Inside: Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant: The Truth Revealed: A Symposium and Call to Action Rutgers Law School Newark: The Baker Trial Courtroom 5:30 p.m, Friday, December 8, 2006 On December 8th, Rutgers Environmental Law Clinic will host a symposium moderated by Actor Alec Baldwin to discuss the dangers of Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant. Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant is the nation's oldest nuclear plant, and host to numerous safety, health, and environmental problems. Exelon, the plant's owner and operator, is currently applying to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for relicensing. Due to numerous problems with the plant, the Clinic is representing the Stop Relicensing of Oyster Creek Coalition (Coalition) in legal action opposing the relicensing of Oyster Creek. The event is a chance for the public to learn more about the dangers of Oyster Creek, which is the nation's oldest nuclear plant. During the event, experts on Oyster Creek and nuclear power will give presentations about problems with Oyster Creek in five areas: safety, terrorism, environment, health, and Exelon's deception and incompetence. After the presentations Alec Baldwin will moderate a discussion on how citizens can help prevent the relicensing of Oyster Creek. The agenda for the event and biographies of the speakers are listed below. Moderated by Alec Baldwin 1) Richard Webster, Attorney, Rutgers Environmental Law Clinic and Eastern Environmental Law Center: Safety issues 2) Bob Alvarez, Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy 1993-1999: Spent fuel dangers & general vulnerability 3) Julia Huff: Attorney, Rutgers Environmental Law Clinic and Executive Director, Eastern Environmental Law Center: Environmental issues associated with Oyster Creek operations: marine impacts 4) Joe Mangano, Executive Director, Radiation and Public Health Project: Health issues 5) Paul Gunter, Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) Exelon's pattern of deception and incompetence 6) Questions timing variable 7) Alec Baldwin, What You Can Do The symposium will educate people about the main reasons why Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant must close. It will also call upon those attending to take action to ensure that the campaign to stop the relicensing of the plant is successful. Actions will include:
