Content Inside: ® I-70100 MAZDA 6 FRONT SWAY BAR REPLACEMENT A TOOLS REQUIRED: · Torque wrench · 3/8" ratchet · 30" ratchet extension · 21mm socket (deep) · 15mm universal joint socket (or) · 14mm socket · 15mm shallow socket with a universal joint · Approx. 3' long piece of 2x4 wood. ESTIMATED TIME: 1-2 hrs. PEOPLE REQUIRED: 2 Read these installation instructions before starting: 1. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, then raise the car and place on safety stands. B C NEVER work under a car supported only by a floor jack! Remove the front wheels. 2. Remove the three (3) plastic screws which attach the wheel-well inner plastic - both sides. (Photo A) Panel 3. Remove the two (2) sheet metal screws from the plastic panel ahead of the wheel-well to gain access to forward subframe nuts. (Photo B & C) 4. Unscrew the two (2) 15mm head securing bolts from the left end of the Bumper steering rack using a 30" extension and universal joint. (Access these bolts as shown in Photos D & E. Guide the socket extension through the opening as shown and have an assistant position the socket head onto the bolt.) This process allows access to the steering rack bolts and avoids undue stress on the steering column during the following steps. NOTE: You do NOT need to support the engine in the following steps. D E 5. Remove the (2) brackets from each side of the rearof the subframe {(2) 15mm head bolts and (1) 21mm head nut with washer.} (see Photo F) 6. On each side of the car, remove the two (2) 21mm head retaining nuts (with washers) from the front of subframe. (see Photo H) 7. Remove the 15mm head bolt from the bottom of the rear engine mount. (see Photo G) 8. Remove the 14mm head nuts which attach sway bar ends to links - both sides. (see Photo I) 8. Remove the sway bar retaining brackets on both sides. (15mm head nuts) On left side, lift steering rack so you can gain access to the nuts. 10. Use a 3 foot long 2x4 to gently pry the rear of subframe away from studs F to allow the sway bar to slip rearward under the studs. 11. Lubricate the urethane bushings with the supplied grease. Install the sway bar in the reverse order of removal. (Install the bushings once the bar is on the car.) Torque the attachment bolts to the following specifications: 21mm 12mm head: 13-19 ft/lbs 14mm head: 32-36 fl/lbs 15mm head: 32-44 ft/lbs 15mm 15mm 21mm: head 69-86 ft/lbs Subframe Bracket I H G © Copyright 2004 4789 Wesley Drive, Anaheim CA 92807 (714)779-8677 · Fax (714)779-2902
