Introduction
General
For security reasons, some ISPs won't let you send email from application software such as Outlook or Outlook Express unless you're directly connected to them - via either a dial-up or broadband connection. If you're unable to send email using your regular email application, BT Openzone have a service that you can use. You'll simply need to make a temporary change to your email application settings. Sending email via webmail isn't affected by this issue - you can use webmail in the usual way.
Email application settings
The BT Openzone service works by providing a mail server that you can use instead of your ISP's server. To use it, you simply need to replace the ISP outgoing mail server address (sending SMTP) with the BT Openzone email server address. When you've finished sending email and before the next time you connect to your usual ISP account, you'll need to change the address back to its original setting, so please remember to make a note of it before you replace it with the BT Openzone email server address.
Changing your Mail Server Address
The usual method for sending mail can be summed up as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. in your email application, find the place where the SMTP mail server address is held make a note of the existing address change it to smtp.btopenzone.com and save your changes send email from your ISP account while you're in the BT Openzone hotspot when you've finished sending mail in the hotspot, change the SMTP address back to its original setting
